Elon vs Sam: The Drama Continues

Remember when Elon Musk and Sam Altman were AI besties? Yeah, those days are long gone. Elon's xAI is reportedly gearing up to launch its own chatbot app next month, taking direct aim at OpenAI's ChatGPT.

Think of it as the AI equivalent of opening a lemonade stand right across the street from your former business partner – except this lemonade stand is valued at a cool $50 billion. That's more than the $44 billion Musk dropped on Twitter (sorry, "X") last year, though still shy of OpenAI's whopping $157 billion valuation.

The new app would be xAI's first direct-to-consumer product, expanding beyond its current role as the AI brain behind Starlink's customer service and X's subscriber-only chatbot, Grok. It's like xAI is finally moving out of its parents' house and getting its own place. 🏠

Interestingly Musk recently handed out a quarter of xAI's shares to his Twitter acquisition investors, who've been nursing some paper losses. It's the corporate equivalent of saying "Sorry about that whole Twitter thing – here's some AI stock to make up for it!"

The numbers tell quite a story: while xAI is on track to hit $100 million in annual revenue, OpenAI is expecting to rake in $3.7 billion in 2024. That's like comparing a corner store to a supermarket chain – but hey, everyone starts somewhere.

Meanwhile, Musk has filed not one but two lawsuits against OpenAI and Altman, claiming he was "deceived" into cofounding the company. At this rate, we're just waiting for someone to make this into a Netflix series.

Will Elon's new chatbot app give ChatGPT a run for its money? December's launch should give us front-row seats to this latest bout between Sam & Elon. 🥊
